A long while back I started a personal project to recreate, in 3D, a painting by james gurney from one of his Dinotopia books (this one - sorry, it's the largest version I could find on the web: http://images1.fanpop.com/images/image_uploads/Rumble-and-Mist-dinotopia-818034_700_239.jpg). These are two sculpts I created for some of the background elements. The project has fallen to the back burner. I'll get back to it eventually.
The Body was started from one of my existing base meshes. The dress and hair were sculpted from scratch in Zbrush then retopo'd using Zremesher. For the wings I experimented with several approaches. In the end I used maya to model basic geo for the flight feathers and a single piece of geo to represent the region of smaller feathers. These were then merged in Zbrush using dynamesh. From there the smaller feathers were sculpted using masks etc and finally the wing was retopo'd via Zremesher, reprojected and cleaned up a bit.
