Like a deer, this creature is found throughout it’s world in differing habitats, with differences in coloring and so forth distinguishing different kinds of Rodundra.
The Rodundra subsists primarily on vegetation, but is in fact an omnivore being known to kill and eat small animals when the opportunity arises and even to occasionally consume carrion.
The body design of this creature is very deliberately a blend between deer and dog (specifically hounds). In some places the dog influence is obvious, such as in the tail and paws, but in others more subtle, such as in the shapes of the legs and torso.
While being dog-like the Rodundra’s paws are unique, being composed of three main toes instead of four due to the fact that the middle toe is actually two toes which have fused over generations, hence it is also notably larger than the other two. It’s nails/claws also differ from those of a dog, being more like those of an ostrich – large and blunt. Other anatomical features are influenced primarily by deer and horse or are essentially unique.
The images below begin with the greyscale renders of the Zbrush Concept sculpt plus some xGen hair, then some photoshop paintover concepts for different colors and finally a quick mockup of the creature in a representation of it’s intended habitat (at least for that particular version of the species) followed by the sketch that inspired this creature concept.
